Asthma is a heterogeneous disease usually characterized by chronic inflammation of the airways. It is determined by the existence of the following symptoms: wheezing, dyspnea, a feeling of constriction in the chest and cough (variable frequency and intensity), as well as difficulty in the expiratory air flow through the respiratory tract of variable severity. Restriction of air flow is a consequence of: spasm of smooth muscles and edema of the bronchial mucosa, accumulation of mucous plugs, and over time also a consequence of the remodeling of the bronchial walls. For etiology, allergic and non-allergic asthma are distinguished.
