Encephalitis is a group of diseases manifested by inflammation of the brain. In turn, meningitis is an infectious disease that affects the lining of both the spinal cord and the brain. Encephalitis is caused by neurotropic viruses. The disease can also occur due to complications of rubella, smallpox and measles, in addition, infection can occur through mites or mosquitoes. Meningitis is caused mainly by three types of bacteria - pneumococci, meningococci and haemophilus influenzae. Thus, infections of a viral, fungal or bacterial nature, or parasites, are the cause of inflammation of the spinal cord or brain in one way or another.
